Our animals are never fed or given hormones or steroids.
Animal health flourishes with the right management. Fresh air, green grass, and sunshine goes a very long way towards hardy and happy animals. Antibiotics are often fed sub-therapeutically (not to treat an illness) in conventional operations to increase growth rates, which has been linked to the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. We do not feed any antibiotics, but we do occasionally treat individuals in the rare event they have a serious ailment. This is usually topical, and a one or two time occurrence, never close to the time of butchering.
Our animals are raised on pasture and rotated regularly, when seasons permit.
100% of our animals' diets are comprised of freshly grazed grass or stored grasses (dry bales and haylage) that were also grown on our farm. Free choice organic salt and kelp is available to the animals, as well.
Our animals are given appropriate shelter during the winter to ensure they are safe, comfortable, and protected from conditions.
Our pigs and poultry, while pasture raised and grass fed, are additionally supplemented with organic non-GMO feed to ensure all of their nutritional needs are being met.
Our free-range animals are provided ample space to wander, forage, and seek shelter. They are not tightly restricted or confined to a building.
